Individual Fishing Days.
Salmon (Eden Season: 15th Jan – 14th Oct)
The River Eden is often overlooked by anglers travelling to those better documented Salmon rivers of Scotland.
However, there are fish in the system all year round, with many running into double figures, and with salmon stocks continuing to decline it still sees it’s fair share of spring fish too, allowing anglers to indulge in their favourite pass time in the knowledge that catching a few of these magnificent specimens is a distinct possibility.
With catch & release high on the agenda, Fly fishing is becoming increasingly popular and certainly takes its fair share of fish throughout the season on a variety of river levels and conditions.
Brown Trout (Eden Season: 15th Mar – 30th Sept)
Brown trout need no introduction to the regular angler, and the River Eden holds an abundance of these Wild creatures throughout the system, offering great opportunities to both the experienced angler and the beginner alike.
Brown trout can be caught throughout the season, but early season does throw up some quality fish as they re-appear from the rigors of winter spawning, often with a “full on” attitude.
Like many rivers, Sea Trout have declined on the Eden over the years, although there are still areas where a little intensive night fishing can throw up some good sport in the Summer months. The Sea Trout season runs from April 1st – Sept 30th
Grayling (Eden Season: June 16th – Mar 14th)
Good quality Grayling can be found on the River Eden, with some fish over the 2lb mark taken on the fly rod.
Grayling fishing offers the opportunity to extend the fly fisherman’s season into the Winter months, thus offering no reason to pack away your fly rod until the trout season arrives again.
A variety of successful techniques include, Czech nymphing, Spider fishing, and of course, Dry fly, the latter often excels around the middle of the day when higher temperatures are in attendance encouraging Grayling to visit the surface from time to time to take advantage of a few sparse winter hatches thus offering up some great sport.
